My work begins with a very detailed sketch of an image I decide to paint. As a practitioner l love painting in oil and enjoy achieving the sense of classic rendering quality. As an u artist practicing in Mumbai for a few years. I have been greatly influenced by the sheer pace and resilience of the city and painting allows me to enjoy a much-needed meditative feeling of contemplation.
My work is a constant exploration of identity, culture, and the subtle yet powerful interactions between the self and the world. I believe that art serves as a reflection of our inner lives, shaped by both personal experiences and the broader socio-cultural forces that surround us. Each of my exhibitions represents a unique chapter in this ongoing journey of self-discovery and expression.
Over the years, I have exhibited my work in some of India’s most prestigious art galleries, including the Jehangir Art Gallery in Mumbai, and at several prominent venues across the country. From my debut exhibition at Jehangir Art Gallery in 2003, titled ‘Astitva’, I have strived to create art that challenges perceptions and invites contemplation. The title ‘Astitva’, meaning “existence” in Hindi, reflected my desire to explore the essence of being, the core of what makes us who we are.
In 2009, I had the honor of showcasing my work at Sumukha Art Gallery in both Chennai and Bangalore. It was during these exhibitions that my concept of ‘Local Spine’ emerged, exploring the connection between place and identity, and how our roots define us. Later, in 2011, the exhibition ‘Soft Land’ at Jehangir Art Gallery represented a softer, more introspective exploration of the human experience, with an emphasis on emotional landscapes and the fragility of existence.
Each exhibition has built on the previous, with ‘Equals’ at BCA Art Gallery in 2015 and ‘Unity’ at Jehangir Art Gallery in 2023 pushing further into themes of equality and unity, celebrating the interconnectedness of all people, transcending boundaries, and embracing a shared humanity.
Global Art Fair in 2017 marked a significant milestone as my work reached an international audience, and in 2018, my exhibition at the Four Seasons Hotel Mumbai reflected my engagement with contemporary life and its complexities.
Looking back at these years, I see a story of growth, transformation, and deepening understanding. With each show, I have sought to not only express my own evolving artistic vision but also to provoke thought and dialogue about the world we inhabit. As I continue to exhibit and evolve, I am reminded that art is a continuous conversation between the artist, the viewer, and the world around us.
